Business software adoption

A market research organization wants to investigate how enterprise organisations select, adopt, and renew business software, the hurdles that stall procurement, and why organisations replace or consolidate existing tools. The study captures deep organizational tool portfolios through dynamic category loops.

Research scenario overview

ParameterSpecification
Sector & DomainB2B Enterprise Software & Information Technology
MethodologyOnline CAWI with one qualified respondent per business organisation
Target UniverseBusiness decision-makers aged 18+ in organizations with 50+ employees who decide, approve, or formally recommend enterprise software purchases.
Sample SizeTarget 400 completed interviews across industry sectors and organization-size bands.
Length of Interview (LOI)Estimated 15–20 minutes median duration (up to 53 item definitions across dynamic category loops).
Key MeasuresEnterprise software category usage (CRM, ERP, Project Management, Collaboration, HR, Security), chosen primary tool deep-dive, user seat access counts, category satisfaction, multi-tool coordination, replacement reasons, recent procurement evaluation process, future software investment priorities, and AI feature readiness.

Methodological and analysis rules

  • Decision-maker screening: Respondents who have no purchasing, evaluation, or budget influence screen out immediately. Organisations using none of the listed software categories remain eligible for the adoption and barrier questions.
  • Dynamic portfolio loops: The portfolio module dynamically repeats for up to 6 selected tool categories, capturing tool satisfaction, user seat count estimates, coordination with existing systems, and replacement rationale.
  • Seat count and budget gating: Seat counts and annual spend are preceded by explicit gating questions permitting Don’t know and Prefer not to answer, preventing missing data from being corrupted into numeric zero.
  • Randomized purchase criteria: Criteria evaluated when selecting software are presented in randomized order with Other anchored at the bottom.
