Breakfast grains brand tracker

A fictional food manufacturer wants to track brand health and determine whether performance gaps stem from lack of awareness, weak initial trial, or poor repeat buying before deciding between advertising reach, retail distribution expansion, or product reformulation. The study measures category dynamics and distinct stages of the brand funnel without making unwarranted causal claims from cross-sectional observations.

Research scenario overview

ParameterSpecification
Sector & DomainConsumer Packaged Goods (FMCG / Grocery)
MethodologyOnline CAWI (Computer-Assisted Web Interviewing)
Target UniverseAdults aged 18+ who share household grocery responsibility and bought breakfast cereals, porridge oats or breakfast grains in the past 4 weeks.
Sample SizeTarget 600 completed interviews per wave with demographic quotas (Age, Settlement).
Length of Interview (LOI)Estimated 10–12 minutes median duration.
Key MeasuresUnaided brand recall, aided brand awareness, 4-week brand penetration, brand most often bought, brand satisfaction, repurchase likelihood, perceived value for money, future brand consideration, channel shopping habits, and consumption occasions.

Methodological and analysis rules

  • Funnel stages: Unaided recall is captured open-ended first before any brand names are shown. Aided awareness presents named brands in randomized order with Other and None anchored at the bottom.
  • Carried selection loops: 4-week brand purchase and consideration carry forward only the specific brands the respondent reported being aware of. Satisfaction, repurchase likelihood, and perceived value are evaluated in a loop for each brand purchased.
  • Reporting denominators: Awareness is reported among all eligible category buyers; purchase is reported among eligible buyers; conversion is calculated among aware buyers.
  • Explicit missing codes: Cannot judge and Never personally eat are explicit responses, reported separately from low ratings and never recoded as scale midpoints.
